The Education major prepares students for professional careers in teaching and educational settings through a comprehensive foundation in educational theory, pedagogy, and practice. The program emphasizes inclusive learning environments, effective instruction, and the developmental, social, and cultural factors that influence student learning. Students engage in coursework that integrates theory with practice, including classroom management, curriculum design, and assessment. The program promotes reflective teaching, ethical decision-making, and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners across educational contexts.
Through practica experiences, students gain hands-on involvement in educational settings, allowing them to apply instructional strategies, develop professional competencies, and build readiness for classroom or education-related careers. The curriculum aligns with state and national standards and prepares students for teacher credentialing or graduate study, depending on program track.
Those who seek an elementary education endorsement may apply for enrollment in the Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP). This specialized track includes many education courses that build towards a full-year of clinical experience in classroom settings. Teaching candidates may earn their elementary (K-6) certifications in NH when they have successfully completed all Gateways required in the PEPP.
Graduates of the Education major will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of learning theory and human development
- Foster effective learning environments that promote engagement and equity
- Design and implement effective, standards-aligned instruction
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student learning
