ENV 320: Terrestrial Ecosystem Science: Ecosystems in Space and Time

This course examines terrestrial ecosystems at local, regional, and global scales, with an emphasis on vegetation, forests, and land-climate interactions. Students investigate how terrestrial systems vary across space and time in response to climate, abiotic and biotic disturbance, and human land-use and land cover change. The course integrates field observations, remote sensing, and models to quantitatively analyze the dynamics of ecosystem structure, function, and response to change. Emphasis is placed on predicting and understanding ecosystems in the context of global environmental change, modern policy, and ecosystem service-based decision-making.
