The study of our natural world has fascinated people throughout time. For centuries people have studied it to determine what, how, where and why certain plants and animals exist in a place. This connection to our natural world also increases our sense of place. It provides us with an understanding of the changes in geological time (like glaciers), helps us identify trends (like climate change) and also provides us with evidence of the history of human land-use in this place. A strong connection to our place helps us in defining our own identity, our community and the contribution we make.
